Runners cross final finish line of the season

Eatonville High School's boys cross country team capped its 2017 season by placing 14th in the state 2A cross country championships, and a Graham-Kapowsin runner had the best individual finish among any competitors from south Pierce County in the state races Nov. 4 in Pasco.
The Cruisers’ seven runners averaged 17 minutes 45 seconds in completing the 2.3-mile layout at Willows Golf Course. Sawyer Noel, a junior, led the way at 17:09, good for 74th place overall.
Sehome won the team title for the second year in a row.
Eatonville qualified its entire team for the 16-school state race on the strength of a top-four finish in the district meet the previous week.
The Cruisers’ highest finisher in the boys’ or girls’ races was Isabelle Snyder, their lone state qualifier on the girls side. Snyder, a senior running her final race as a high school competitor, finished 43rd in a clocking of 20:17.8.
Kristen Garcia of Sedro-Woolley won the girls individual title at 17:52. Sehome was the team champion.
The 3A and 4A championships, held the same site as the 2A schools, included competitors from south Pierce County.
Graham-Kapowsin’s Jesse Kaas finished 35th in the 4A boys race. Kaas, a senior, reached the finish line in 16:03, less than a minute behind winner Ryan Kline of Central Valley (15:11).
In the 3A category, Bethel’s entries were Cameron McCann, a freshman in the boys race (he finished 93rd) and seniors Autumn Franklin (106th) and McKenna Henderson (118th) in the girls event.
