Eatonville wrestler named WIAA athlete of the week

The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) honored an Eatonville High School wrestler this week for his outstanding performance at a recent wrestling match.

James Matthew placed third at the Larry Brown Invitation, won his dual match against Fife and pinned all five of his opponents at the Cruiser Classic Tournament. He was named outstanding wrestler for the tournament at his weight class.

Each week through the school year, the WIAA recognizes varsity athletes who exhibit “an outstanding performance for the previous week,” a WIAA news release stated. All varsity level students in good academic standing at their schools are eligible to receive the WIAA and Wendy’s Athlete of the Week Award. Students may win the award once during any given academic year, the news release stated.
