Cruisers, Braves in hoops playoffs

Eatonville and Bethel will start post-season journeys this week that they hope will lead them to their respective state high school girls basketball tournaments.

Both teams will open their bids Wednesday in the West Central District playoffs.

For Eatonville's Cruisers, the first-ruond matchup in the 2A will be on their home court against Olympic at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to a second-round contest Feb. 9 against Fife in the latter's gym. The loser between Eatonville and Olympic will play Feb. 13 at Wilson High in Tacom against an opponent to be decided.

Bethel will get started by hosting North Thurston at 7 p.m. The winner will have a Feb. 9 date at Rogers High against the team that emerges victorious from a first-round game Wednesday between Shelton and Kelso.

A first-round loss for Bethel would put the Braves in a loser-out contest Friday at Washington High against the loser of a first-rounder between Mount Tahoma and Highline.

The disstrict playoffs are double-elimination format

Bethel and Eatonville qualified for the post-season with second-place finishes in their leagues.
