Man busted for drugs he hid where he worked

A former employee of the Walmart store in Spanaway was arrested after trying to retrieve illegal drugs he tried to hide there, according to the Pierce County Sheriff Department.
The 24-year-old man was fired after he was caught trying to steal a safe that was for sale in the store. He then called the store a few days later on Jan. 28 and said he was on his way there to pick up the same safe because he “forgot” it, deputies said. Before he arrived, store employees looked inside the safe – which was still in its box -- and found a stash of heroin and prescription tranquilizer.
Deputies were called, and the ex-employee started crying when they showed up at the store shortly after he did. He claimed the safe was his and that it contained his “medication.”
He was booked into the county jail on suspicion of unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
