A 22-year-old Monroe man was arrested for criminal trespass and possession of drug paraphernalia at the local Fred Meyer on Friday, April 21. He was also found to have five outstanding warrants.

Monroe Police were called by a store employee Friday night, arriving around 8 p.m., said MPD administrative director Debbie Willis. The man was considered a priority trespass, she said.

“It was a known subject who should not be on the property,” she said.

Officers made contact with the man who is believed to have travelled to and from the store on a bicycle.

“At the time of his arrest he was found with drug paraphernalia, and several small pieces of tinfoil with burnt track marks, which would be consistent with heroin,” she said. “So he was arrested for criminal trespass, possession of drug paraphernalia and the five warrants.”

Willis said finding someone who has multiple warrants is uncommon, but happens occasionally when a person is regularly involved in criminal activity, and does not show up for court.

“They can start stacking up,” she said.

The warrants were filed through the Monroe Municipal Court, and all were misdemeanors; they included three counts of third-degree theft, which is considered a gross misdemeanor in Washington, and two counts of drug paraphernalia possession. Bail was set for $4,050 for each of the warrants, and $1,000 for both of the most recent charges.

A gross misdemeanor is punishable by up to 364 days in prison, a fine of up to $5,000 or a combination of both a fine and jail time. A misdemeanor is punishable by up to 90 days, or a fine of no more than $1,000, or a combination of both a fine and jail time.

The man was booked into the Snohomish County Jail, where he was still registered as of Thursday, April 27.
