Free public workshops to help high school students with college-related decisions will be hosted by Pierce County Library System (PCLS) starting this month at many of its branches, including the ones in south Pierce County.
"Moving on from high school can be exciting and scary, and this program helps to build the excitement and lessen the scary part,” said Georgia Lomax, executive director of PCLS.
The workshops and schedules for them include:
• ACT/SAT practice test: Jan. 27, 1 to 4 p.m. at Parkland-Spanaway branch, 13718 Pacific Ave. S.
• College application essays: Feb. 1, 6 p.m. at Parkland-Spanaway branch, 13718 Pacific Ave. S. Tacoma Community College staff members will present instruction on how to get started on college admissions essays or personal statements. Bring a tablet or a laptop.
• It’s a Money Thing: Financial advice on moving out and living independently. Feb. 28 at 6 p.m. and March 29 at 5 p.m. at Graham branch, 9202 224th St. E.; March 20, 3 p.m. at Eatonville branch, 205 Center St. W.
• Banking: Advice on choosing financial institutions. March 6, 6:30 p.m. at Parkland-Spanaway branch.
• Financing College: Review college loans and payback options and the basics of a free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). March 22, 6:30 p.m. at Parkland-Spanaway branch.
