The Nov. 26 meeting of the Pierce County Council – held two days before Thanksgiving – was a largely perfunctory affair lasting less than 30 minutes. Five councilmembers were in attendance, minus Dave Morell and Jim McCune, both of whom had excused absences.
By a vote of 5-0, the council passed Proposal No. 2019-95, amending Chapter 2.06 of the Pierce County Code describing responsibilities of the Planning and Public Works Department related to efficiency and sustainability programs.
Also by a 5-0 vote, the council passed Proposal No. 2019-93 regarding county tax revenues to be spent on prevention and related preventative children’s services. Funds are to be appropriated as follows: 52 percent by recommendation of the Pierce County Human Services Allocation Advisory Committee and approved by the county council; 13 percent to the Pierce County Human Services Department for administrative costs; 25 percent by the Family Support Partnership program of the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department; and 10 percent by the county council during its annual budget process.
Finally, the council unanimously approved Proposal No. R2019-153, setting 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Thronewood Castle in Lakewood, as an in-district (District No. 6) county council meeting. As required by the county charter, the council holds at least one in-district evening meeting each year to be chaired by the council member representing that district – in this case, Doug Richardson, council chair. District 6 includes Lakewood, Steilacoom, DuPont and Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
