Regional Council seeks public comment on Eatonville town center project

SEATTLE – The Puget Sound Regional Council is seeking public comment on projects recommended to receive approximately $5 millionSeptember 12, 2019, at which time a recommendation to the Executive Board for approval will be made. The Executive Board is scheduled to approve the project recommendations at its meeting on September 26. Eatonville’s project is in the running along with seven other projects in the region.

 in Rural Town Centers and Corridors Program funding. The public comment period will run from July 11 to September 26, 2019.

PSRC’s Rural Town Centers and Corridors Program uses Federal Highway Administration funds for projects supporting smaller towns and cities in rural areas of the region. This recommendation also includes a prioritized contingency list of projects should additional funds become available prior to the next project selection process.

 The recommended projects for funding include, in Eatonville e – SR 161/Washington Ave N. Corridor Streetscape Phase 2, Construction, $2,145,200. Improvements include new sidewalks with ADA compliant curb ramps, lighting, stormwater drainage, landscaping, and a rapid rectangular flashing beacon system at the intersection of SR 161 and Carter Street E.

Public comments received by September 5 will be provided to the Transportation Policy Board in the agenda packet for its meeting  on September 26. Eatonville’s project is in the running along with seven other projects in the region.

Eatonville Mayor Mike Schaub is optimistic about the town’s chances of getting the grant. He said the town was able to contribute a 13 ½ percent match  — or  $270,000 — on the  $2 ½ million dollar project.

“We’re on the project list, but we, have to go through the comment period,” Schaub said. “We’ll know if we get it in early September.”

PSRC develops policies and coordinates decisions about regional growth, transportation and economic development planning within King, Pierce, Snohomish and Kitsap counties. The Council is composed of over 80 entities, including all four counties, cities and towns, ports, state and local transportation agencies and tribal governments within the region.
