Expo shoppers support local children in need

The Graham Kapowsin Community Council's 16th Annual Expo brought local businesses and crafters from the region together to raise about $3,000 to help feed local children who may not have access to healthy food outside of school.
"We are trying to link the community," Council Director Carol Wright said.
Wright said every year the council tries to pick a project to support and they saw a need among Graham, Bethel and Eatonville students.
"It was pretty overwhelming," Wright said. "So we partnered with Harvest House food pantry. So everything we raise at the expo, besides what's needed to pay for the venue, goes to them."
Harvest House is a local nonprofit that hosts three different food support programs. One of the programs provides students in nearby school districts with backpacks of easy to make, nutritious food for the weekend. The other two programs include a community garden and a weekend food pantry.
Expo-goers were able to purchase local food, art, gift baskets and more.
Harvest House said they love being a partner with the Graham-Kapowsin Community Council.
"Our Powerpack program serves 11 school districts and provides 260 backpacks a week," Director Katie Daniels said. "The program is definitely growing and the need is definitely there."
