- The 2019 Washington State 4H Shooting Sports Championships were held May 17th – 19th at the Upper Nisqually Sportsman Club here in Eatonville. Youth from all over the state converged here in town to compete against each other in various shooting disciplines that included shotgun, rifle, and archery.
After the conclusion of the event, Eatonville is now the proud hometown of 5 state champions.
Dylan Corey took home the title of Senior Shotgun state champion. After finishing as the runner up last year in the rifle event, he decided to change over to the shotgun and it has worked out well for him. His time, effort, and endless hours of practice paid off for him this year. The other state champions include Spencer Boies (Senior Rifle), Jake Brannon (Junior Rifle), Michael Laird (Intermediate Rifle), and Bodie Turner (Intermediate Compound Archery).
When asked about the state championships, state event coordinator and former president of the 4-H Upper Nisqually club Gordon Corey said, “It was great to see the youth from across the state involved in shooting sports and competing in all different activities and having fun. It was also nice to see the youth helping each other out with words of encouragement when a shooter was seen struggling.”
Everyone at the senior level that placed in the top 5 have qualified to compete at the national level in Grand Island, Nebraska in 2020.
