Cruisers march all over Patriots

This past Friday night the Eatonville Cruisers took on the Washington Patriots at B.W. Lyons Field in Eatonville to open the SPSL 2A Mountain division league play. The Cruisers were looking to build on their first win of the season they picked up Last week against Orting.

Washington would win the coin toss and defer to the second half, so the Cruisers received the opening kickoff.

Sophomore Jakob Lucht would return the ball out to the Cruisers 34-yard line. The Cruiser offense would waste no time getting on the board. Zach Smith would find Job Kralik streaking down the sideline and connect with him for a 51-yard touchdown strike. Kralik would put the extra point attempt through the uprights and the Cruisers would take an early 7-0 lead.

On the ensuing kickoff, Kralik would kick short to the right side of the field and Senior Nic Bond would race down the sideline and beat the defender to the ball to recover if for the Cruisers.

The very next play, Zach Smith would line up at receiver and Caden Jumper at quarterback. Smith would beat his man and Jumper would float a pass over the top of the defender and Smith would race down the sideline for the score. Kralik’s extra point would be good and the Cruisers would take a 14-0 lead before Washington had even to0uched the ball.

The Cruiser defense would force a punt on the Patriots first possession and then the Cruiser offense would go to work again.

After a few short yardage plays, Smith would dump a pass to Nick Sawyer who would scramble up the sideline before stepping out of bounds at the 5-yard line. The Cruisers would then be assessed a penalty for an illegal shift that would back them up to the 10. Zach Smith would then hit Caden Jumper on a nice back shoulder throw and Jumper would haul in for the score. Kralik’s extra point would be successful and the Cruisers extended their lead to 21-0.

The Patriots would finally get their offense going and get on the board halfway through the first quarter. That would be the only score that the Cruiser starting defense would give up.

Eatonville’s offense would strike again a few minutes later when Jumper would find Jakob Lucht streak across the middle for a 21-yard touchdown. Kralik’s extra point would be good and the Cruisers would then lead 28-7 with a little over two minutes left in the first quarter.

The Cruiser defense would hold the Patriots scoreless for the second quarter while the Cruiser offense kept rolling.

Eatonville would put up another 21 points in the second quarter. Alex Brymer would find the endzone for the Cruisers on a nice 12-yard run. Zach Smith would score on a 46-yard run off the fly sweep. To cap off the scoring on the night for the Cruisers, Zach Smith would find Nic Sawyer on a short pass that Sawyer would elude the defenders and rumble 93 yards for the score. After the extra point, the Cruisers would lead 49-7 and that would be the score at halftime.

In the second half, the Cruisers would rest most of their starters and the Patriots would capitalize by scoring twice in the half.

As the clock hit zeros, the Cruisers would take a 49-20 victory to improve to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in league play.

Zach Smith would have a great night for the Cruisers. He would have a hand in 5 of the Cruisers 7 touchdowns on the night. Smith would finish 6 of 7 passing for 237 yards and 3 touchdowns. He would run the ball 3 times for 59 yards and a score. He would catch 2 passes for 22 yards and a touchdown.
