Eatonville’s Pay It Forward club is active all year round, aiming to do good deeds before its members are asked.
This season, the club will hold a crafts sale from 9 a.m. to about 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2 outside the Plaza Market to aid teens experiencing homelessness in the area.
“A lot of fundraisers go to children and adults, but not as many go directly to homeless teens,” said Colleen Ryan, a volunteer with the Pay it Forward club.
Ryan said that though she doesn’t have an exact count of homeless teens in the area, local agencies have impressed upon the group that teens are a worthy cause.
All proceeds from the sale will go toward the purchase of winter gift bags for the teens, with winter survival items including socks, gloves and scarves.
The club will be selling several crafted items like holiday wreaths, tea kettle/pot holders, baby blankets and tablecloths, among other items. There will also be a raffle, which will hawk a crocheted lap blanket for $1 a ticket.
The drawing is scheduled for the sale’s closing time, and participants need not be present at the time. All they will have to do is pay the $1 and provide some contact information.
Drop-off locations for the winter survival bags are yet to be determined.
