Entering its 10th year, Monroe's free summer lunch program is scheduled again at Frank Wagner Elementary School. Continuing this year is a partnership with local groups to provide learning activities at 12:30 p.m. each day.
Known now as the Summer Star Club, organizations are needed to host the activities that may last up to an hour or more.

Monroe Library has enjoyed participating over the past several years. "The summer feeding program gives me an opportunity to connect with children and families that I may not see in the library,GÇ¥ says Shannon Dye, Monroe Library Children's Librarian. "Another added benefit is encouraging children to read and sign up for our Explore Summer reading program, since it's so important to maintain reading skills while school is on break.GÇ¥ Last year, the Monroe Police took this opportunity to teach students about investigative tools GÇô such as lifting fingerprints from vehicles. Administrative Bureau Director, Debbie Willis, said the program is "a great opportunity for the police department to interact with the kids in a positive setting.GÇ¥ The Monroe Police Department is hosting an activity again this summer.

Monroe Public Schools' Child Nutrition program will serve the free meal to any youth 18 years old and younger from Wednesday, June 18 through Friday, August 15, from noon to 12:45 p.m. Frank Wagner Elementary School is located at 115 Dickinson St. and the lunch area is easily accessible from either Dickinson Road or Main Street. No eligibility forms or paperwork-áare required.
