As graduation approaches, one family of a teen who died in a crash in 2007 is holding an alumni soccer game to raise money for scholarships for some of those graduates.
Thomas Turner, 17, died in a crash on U.S. Highway 2 in the winter of 2007 on the way back from a ski trip.
He had been a talented soccer player, and so his family began the Thomas C. Turner Memorial Scholarship in his name and organized an alumni soccer game to raise funds.
In the years since the scholarship was started, the family has given away more than $15,000. The awards go to promising students, but they aren't necessarily soccer players, said Turner's father, Tom Cock.
This year's soccer matches wiil take place Thursday, June 13, at Monroe High School. The women's game will start at 5:30 and the men's game at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $5. There will be food on hand, including wood-fired pizza from Pompeii Pizza.
"It's a great cause and a fun event," said Turner's sister, Kelsey Cohen.
