Monroe High School is enveloped in the holiday spirit while also preparing for winter break and events coming up upon the students' return!
Last, week Key Club began writing holiday letters to soldiers.
ASB is finding ways to spread the holiday feel through throughout the school and community. To ensure the student body is aware of various events going on, Laura Jackson, a junior at MHS, decided to make a winter events wall. This wall is outside to 100 POD and is full of information pertaining to things like sports games, meets and matches, and ASB sponsored events!
This week each class will begin decorating their designated PODs for the annual POD Decorating! Freshmen decorate the 700s, sophomores decorate the 500s, juniors decorate the 300s, and seniors decorate the 100s. To help, students can stay after school all week to help their class win the competition!
Battle of the Bands will be held after winter break on January 16. To sign up, pick up a form from Room 102 or on the winter event wall.
Band is busy preparing for their concert coming up on December 15 from 7 to 8 p.m. Community members are more than welcome to come support the MHS band at the concert.
The MHS library staff has embraced the season of giving by starting a "Take One, Leave OneGÇ¥ shelf. If you or a student you know at MHS has a book they no longer want, just put it on the shelf and then you can take one for yourself!
Each year, the graduating class hosts several fundraisers to be able to pay for various costs that come along with graduation. This year, the senior parents have decided to partner with Monroe Galaxy Theatre. On Thursday, December 11 at 6:30 p.m. the theatre will be showing Christmas Vacation for just $5 at the door. All proceeds go to the Graduating Class of 2015. In addition there will be a raffle for an amalgamation of gift baskets with themes such as Seahawks, Xbox, Sports, Huskies, and more! The event is open to all community members.
Winter break is coming quick, along with several other important dates! There are 9 -+ days until break (December 19), 16 days until Christmas, and 107 school days and one half day until graduation (June 6)!
