Last week, Monroe High School (MHS) put on a week-long event called We Are One week. The purpose of the week was to unite the student body and celebrate differences.
The week consisted of several smaller activities during lunches that envelop the idea of integration, leading up to the main event on Friday. The day began with the winter pep assembly. Then, after school was the We Are One Festival. The week not only unified the student body at MHS but also connected the student body with the community. Community members were encouraged to attend the free festival. Each club hosted a booth with activities ranging from face painting to carnival games.
Then, following the game, the MHS ASB hosted the annual Battle of the Bands. The class that wons the competition in the pep assembly Friday morning got $1 off the $3 admission. The MHS student body asks that the community come support the events.
MHS ASB also partnered with Brookdale, the Sky Valley Food Bank and the Matthew House to give community service opportunities for the entire MHS student body. Students volunteered at Brookdale on Jan. 8 and Jan. 15, Sky Valley Food Bank Jan. 12 and Jan. 19 and the Matthew House on Jan. 22.
