Snohomish County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to an area near Index over the weekend to assist in the recovery of a body from the Skykomish River.
Sheriff's Office patrol deputies responded to the scene at approximately 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, along with members of the Snohomish County Search and Rescue Team. The body was discovered at approximately 6 p.m. by an individual in the area. According to the Sheriff's Department press release, the body was found near Sunset Falls; however, other reports generated by local area residents indicate that it may have been found at the base of Canyon Falls.
The Sheriff's Department stated that they are not considering the death to be suspicious at this time, and that they believe the victim to be a man who was reported missing earlier in the week.
Sunset Falls is located approximately four miles south of the town of Index and Canyon Falls is located less than a mile east of Sunset Falls.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner will be working to identify the victim and determine both the cause and manner of his death.
