Sheriff's office recovers body from Skykomish River

Medical Examiner to identify deceased; man went missing in river near Sunset Falls two weeks ago

The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office recovered a man’s body from the Skykomish River on  Saturday.

Deputies were called out at 11:41 a.m. to the 49100 block of U.S. 2 near Index, according to a news release. The agency's Search and Rescue units looked along the river by air.

The crew inside a SnoHawk1 helicopter spotted the deceased man's body floating in the water. 
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office responded to the scene, and will identify the decedent following an investigation, according to the release. 

A 49-year-old man went missing after falling in the Skykomish River near Index on June 17. The sheriff’s office had suspended a search several days afterward, believing the man’s body man have been pinned under Sunset Falls.

A 70-year-old Gold Bar man was found in the Skykomish River on Thursday, June 22, four days after disappearing while on a walk. His cane was found near the river that night in Gold Bar.

A 25-year-old Texas woman visiting her mother remains missing. Her mother told law enforcement they were sitting on a rock near Sunset Falls on June 27, and when she looked away and back again, her daughter was gone.

Law enforcement is encouraging people to avoid the river as conditions remain unsafe due to fast-moving currents and cold water temperatures.
