When a disaster occurs, there's no knight in shining armor like a good insurance agent.
And one insurance agency in Monroe now has a real knight in shining armor standing outside the door, reminding people to "protect your kingdom."
But that knight needs a name, so Harvey Insurance Associates, which is changing its name to Castle Insurance Associates, is holding a name-the-knight contest to find a good moniker for the metal-clad man.
The knight is a life-sized figure, and when mounted on a stand he is about seven feet tall, leaning on a broadsword and standing on a base complete with English lions rampant.
Businesses and residents alike can submit name suggestions to Castle Insurance Associates. If a business wins, the knight will display a sign bearing the name of that business from March 10-14. If a resident wins, that person will get a $25 gift certificate. The winner will be announced in the Monroe Monitor.
Five runners-up will get a $10 Starbucks gift card and an announcement in the Monroe Monitor.
All submissions must be entered by 5:30 p.m. Feb 21.
The theme of knights and castles is partly taken from the family name of the insurance company's owner.
The business started out as Monroe Insurance Associates in 1998 on the corner of Ferry and Main Streets, where it is still located. Randy Harvey bought the business in 2007 and later changed the name to Harvey Insurance. Donna Whittemore bought half the business in 2009, and the rest of it in 2013.
As her maiden name is Castle, the name Castle Insurance Associates made for a perfect way to remind people to "protect your kingdom."
Already whimsical medieval decor appears throughout the spacious office, with toy castles greeting clients in the entry and seating area.

Customer service agent Rosa Hernandez emphasizes that while the name might be new, the business still has the same history and experience it always has had.
""There is more than 75 years of combined experience," she said. "We really try to help the local members, and keep it very personal, a friend helping a friend. We listen to customers, and get to know them and help them out, and answer their questions. It's still the same Harvey heart, with a new name."
