Celebrate Return of the Salmon Sept. 27

The City of Sultan; Tulalip Tribes; Sky Valley Chamber of Commerce; Snohomish County PUD and a committee of community volunteers welcomes the community to Sultan's third annual Return of the Salmon Celebration on Saturday, September 27, from noon to 4 p.m. at Osprey Park, 801 First St. in Sultan. It is a covered venue and the event will go on rain or shine.
Beginning with a Native welcoming at noon, the event features an honoring of Sultan's namesake Chief T'seul-ted; Sultan High School salmon hatchery tours and fish release; riverside tours; Indian tacos, a Native flute concert; storytelling; vendors, including a mini farmers' market; children's activities; watershed and Master Gardeners education; horse-drawn covered wagon rides and much more.
New this year is a Salmon Run through Osprey Park. This timed, three mile runners' race and one mile fast walk begins at 10 a.m. Registration, with a $10 entry fee, is open from 9:15 to 9:55 a.m. at Osprey Park. The Salmon Run will wind through the scenic river paths in Osprey Park. Preparations are being headed up by Sultan High School's Cross Country Coach, Rick Holloway and his team. Prizes will be awarded, and all participants will receive commemorative T-shirts.
Sultan Mayor Carolyn Eslick has proclaimed September 27 as "A Day of Remembrance for Chief T'seul-Ted, and a Day Celebrating the Return of the Salmon.GÇ¥ Salmon that left their birth river in Sultan as small fingerlings are back as adults to spawn, continuing the circle of life.
