Next week, an eight-week course designed to help citizens respond in community emergency situations will begin again in Sultan.
The CERT, or Community Emergency Response Team, course starts Wednesday Feb. 13 and will continue for the next eight Wednesdays.
The three-hour classes will cover topics such as disaster preparedness, disaster psychology, fire suppression, terrorism awareness, search and rescue, and medical triage.
The classes are free, and are this year taught by Kenda Machorro, a Sultan CERT volunteer instructor.
Those who complete CERT training have the option of remaining on the city's volunteer list. Then, when the city needs help with certain situations, the volunteers may get a call.
In the past, CERT volunteers have helped clear a sudden heavy snowfall from the roofs of mobile homes belonging senior citizens.
Currently about 60 of the citizens who have taken the class have agreed to stay on call for the city.
