Congresswoman to attend Coffee with the Mayor

U.S. Rep. Suzan DelBene and newly appointed state Rep. Carolyn Eslick will meet in Sultan at 9 a.m. Friday for the weekly Coffee with the Mayor event at Galaxy Chocolates, 501 Main St.

Sultan grants and volunteer coordinator Donna Murphy wrote in an email that the gathering is a way for residents to meet up with Eslick in an informal setting. She wrote that active community members often show up, and it is a place to network with other local agencies and residents.

“Everyone is given a chance to talk, and it's a very positive experience,” she wrote.

This week's event will be structured differently. DelBene will have a platform to talk about state and national issues, and a Q&A session will follow.

DelBene represents the 1st Congressional District, which consists of most of Snohomish, Skagit and Whatcom counties, and part of King County. Eslick is representing the 39th Legislative District, which encompasses sections of Skagit, King and Snohomish counties, in the Washington House of Representatives. She was chosen last week to fill the seat left vacant by former Rep. John Koster in August, and had set this week’s Coffee with the Mayor beforehand.

Eslick has been mayor for the past 10 years, and is currently serving a four-year term that ends on Dec. 31, 2019. She has lived in Sultan since 1979. Eslick will step down from her position as mayor after establishing a transition and replacement plan with the Sultan City Council.

A time to socialize is scheduled from 9-9:30 a.m. Friday morning, and Coffee Hour will follow from 9:30-10:30 a.m., Murphy wrote.
