Snohomish Conservation District hosted their annual Awards Reception on March 25 in Everett to honor local farmers, partners and landowners who are making significant progress in improving natural resources on their property and supporting District programs.
The Cooperator of the Year award was won by Werkhoven Dairy, Inc. of Monroe for their efforts in conservation and protecting resources on their Tualco area dairy.
Wildlife Farm winners were Babs Luedke and Sharon Ronsse, both of Monroe. (Babs-á (left)-áwith District Habitat Specialist Cindy Dittbrenner) Luedke has worked to restore and replant portions of Woods Creek with native plants . She has worked with several conservation work crews in an effort to reduce erosion and provide habitat for fish and wildlife. Sharon Ronsse, owner of Woods Creek Nursery, was honored for protecting the portion of Woods Creek that runs near the nursery. Her knowledge of plants and horticulture went a long way in supporting the young conservation crew working alongside her.
Wiard Groeneveld of Monroe (shown here with his wife, Jean) earned one of two Lifetime Achievement awards. He served as a Conservation District Supervisor, guiding and promoting District programs, for many years.
