Ogle classic cars, bag a fish, and end the evening with a prime rib dinner.
It's all on the itinerary in Monroe for Father's Day this year, starting with the first annual Father's Day Celebration in downtown Monroe, starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 15 with a car show, and continuing until 4 p.m.
Although the event is new this year, the car show is off to a promising start, said Paula Fortier, owner of Main Clothing Company and president of the Downtown Revitalization and Enhancement Association of Monroe, which is organizing the event.
"People have pre-registered, which is good, because a lot of times they don't, and they just show up," she said. "I think it's going to be really good."
There will be live music performances all day, as well, including an Elvis impersonator who will stroll the downtown between performances, posing for photos with the cars and the visitors.
Classic rock band Midnight Hour will also play twice, and there will be a DJ in the morning.
There will be treats, sweet and savory, including ice cream, root beer floats, barbecue, hot dogs and more.
For dads who like to try their luck, there is a 50-50 raffle that offers ticket buyers a chance at up to $2,500. And in the last hour of the day there will be a 1950s-themed pageant.
All four blocks of Main Street will close for the day.
Father's Day Weekend at Falling Water Gardens

Fishing is a Father's Day favorite, but Falling Water Gardens in the Tualco Valley just south of Monroe is putting a new spin on the activity Saturday and Sunday of Father's Day weekend.
Visitors who drop in at the business, which has a wide selection of plants, water features, decorative goldfish and koi and other outdoor design elements, will get to take home a free fish from Falling Water.
There will also be snacks and beverages on hand all weekend, as well. The business, which specializes in outdoor and landscape design, has lots of ideas for home projects and unusual items not to be found elsewhere in the valley.
Dinner
Finish out the evening at Tuscanos Italian Kitchen on N. Kelsey, which is offering a 12 oz. prime rib cooked to order with mashed potatoes, asparagus and focaccia bread, as well as your choice of soup or salad, for $24.95.
Or swing by Adam's, which is also planning a dinner special that evening, and which has a line of hand-crafted beer on tap, as well.
