Father's Day celebration a success in first year

Gabby, 10, and Maddie, 6, with Gabby's dad, Peter Horvath of Monroe, enjoy Father's Day, the sun, hot rods, and the Monroe Main Street Car Show. The event, which supported the downtown revitalization group DREAM, drew a good-sized crowd to the downtown, leading DREAM President Paula Fortier to call it a success.

Shirel Smith, lead singer, and Mark Rainey, drummer of the band Midnight Hour, are wed in a traditional Jewish ceremony on the bandstand shortly before their opening set, entertaining the crowds during the Monroe Main Street Car Show, Saturday in downtown Monroe.

Just in time for Monroe's first Father's Day Celebration, the Monroe Chamber of Commerce worked with the City of Monroe to unveil an updated information kiosk downtown last week.
The graphics, done by Monroe sign company Signco, include a map of the city.
"Our map is beautiful," said Annique Bennett, director of the Chamber of Commerce. "I'm so excited about it."
