Dance performance adds spice to Mediterranean fare

February nights are cold everywhere, perhaps, but not at Bella Balducci's.
About once a month, the Mediterranean restaurant in Monroe brings in a belly dance performance during the dinner hour, and Feb. 2 at 8 p.m., Seattle dancer Bella Jovan will appear.
Bella has toured all over the world, dancing in China, Turkey, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Morocco and Brazil. She has danced with Fleurs d'Eypte, an international dance company, and appears at a lot of festivals and events around Seattle, her home city.
She uses many traditional props in her performances, including finger cymbals, veils, swords, canes and fans.
Diners who have seen the performances before rate them highly.
"We did not know that there was going to be belly dancing that night; that was such a treat, and there was no cover charge and it was so much fun," said one woman who celebrated her 10th wedding anniversary there, on a restaurant review site. "The belly dancer was very pretty, and nice."
Bella Balducci's is under new management as of this month, and menu prices have been reduced, according to one of the new managers.
Also, hours of operation will be more consistent now, he said.
The menu features many Greek items such as souvlaki and gyros, with Italian pastas and grilled seafoods, as well as Persian specials.
Bella will give a 30 minute performance at 8 p.m. Feb. 2, and reservations are suggested.
To make a reservation, call (206) 321-2412. Bella Balducci's is located at 19565 U.S. 2.
