Evening of Native Culture and Silent Auction at Monroe High School

The Skykomish Valley Indian Education and Parent Organization invites the community to celebrate Native culture with an evening of Native artists, storytelling and music.

The Evening of Native Culture and Silent Auction takes place at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 26, at the Monroe High School Performing Arts Center; doors open at 6:15 p.m. Admission is free, refreshments will be served and all are welcome to attend. The family-friendly event will include musical performances by virtuoso violinist Swil Kanim and storytelling by master storyteller Frank Goes Behind.

Kanim grew up in Bellingham and is a member of the Lummi Nation. He is a classically trained violinist, Native storyteller, actor and public speaker. Frank Goes Behind, a member of the Nooksack Tribe, is an accomplished artist and carver who is known for his dynamic storytelling performances.-á -á

Auction items include cultural arts items, framed prints, gift baskets and gift certificates.

The Skykomish Valley Indian Education and Parent Organization is a grant-funded program that serves Native American and Alaska Native students from preschool through high school attending Monroe, Sultan and Snohomish public schools. Proceeds from the event support the program's graduation and merit awards, cultural activities and snacks for after-school programs.
