Famed kora musician to perform in Index


Northwest Heritage Resources will present a concert performance by world famous West African kora musician Foday Musa Soso on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. at the River House, 444 Ave. A in Index.
Foday Musa Suso hails from a Mandinka griot family from Gambia in West Africa. His main instrument, the kora, is a West African 21 string harp-lute. He is also a skilled singer, oral historian, geneologist and storyteller.
Since his emigration to Chicago in 1977, Suso has collaborated with many American artists including Bill Laswell, Philip Glass, Pharaoh Sanderss, Jack DeJohnette, Ginger Baker, Paul Simon and Kronos Quartet.
The concert is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, ArtsWA and Northwest Heritage Resources.
Suggested admission to the concert is a donation of $5. There will be no advance ticket sales. Most of the donations will go to support the Index Historical Society.
