Finding kindred Seahawk spirits in the Valley

By Jen Ryan Mauck
The 12th Man is loud and proud this football season, and with that, comes lively gatherings. The following three local establishments represent the Seahawk spirit in their own distinctive ways'but what they all have in common is a true sense of tradition and community.

The definitive Seahawks bar
Loggers Inn, located in the heart of Sultan, celebrates Seahawk game day in true, 12th Man fashion'music, cold beer, pool and shots. Leo Moreno, the owner since 2007, rarely misses a game day, and is the ultimate life of the party.
Last month, Moreno even painted the outside of the building Seahawk-blue-and-green and decorated an old, withered story pole to reflect Seahawk spirit.
Leo, who chants and cheers during the game to build momentum and spirit, believes that Loggers is a success due to its loyal customers and hospitable setting. "You walk in, it's welcoming, it's open, and people feel at home. It's been around since the 1880s, so it's very rustic and has a lot of character, like the people.GÇ¥
Seahawks game days are boisterous and loud. The bar boasts several TVs, both inside and outside, all with access to the NFL Red Zone so that fantasy-footballers can keep track of their investments while they watch the Seahawks.
The Loggers has great drink specials, and with every touchdown, Moreno lowers the price on popular shots. "It's an adult play land,GÇ¥ Moreno explains, "and always a party. It's a lot like Cheers'where everybody knows your name.GÇ¥
Moreno recently purchased the land next door in order to enhance the establishment and allow for more customers to come party on game days. Loggers is a staple in Sultan'and on game days, it hosts parties that you'll never want to end. Loggers Tavern is located at 215 Main St in Sultan.

The rustic pub
Twin Rivers Brewery Company, an expansion of Adam's Northwest Bistro, is Monroe's only craft brewery and is gaining recognition for its charming and classic pub feel.
Chef Adam Hoffman and his team have completely revamped the brewery to reflect the community's passion and spirit for games and sports 'and customers are thrilled.
On game days, fans can watch the Hawks dominate on an 8-foot flat projection screen TV mounted high above the bar. There are three other flat screens, as well, to give the establishment a surround sound like no other. Filled with sportive collectables and rustic chandeliers, the quaint pub provides the perfect ambience in which customers and their families (yes, it's kids-friendly!) can enjoy free games, including darts, dominos, backgammon, Jenga, Scrabble and chess. Patrons can also play Buzz Time'an interactive game that facilitates playing along with any live sporting event. The bar also offers live game trivia, adding a competitive edge to the occasion.
But, perhaps this local brewery's signature item is the menu. From Pumpkin Ale, Beer Camp Brown to traditional Blonde and Northwest I.P.A, Chef Adam and his brew masters carefully craft some of the finest beers around; they recently started serving wine and spirits in the pub, as well. A delicious selection of game day bar bites are just $5 and include chicken wing glazes; tender braised pork belly; 18-hour smoked pork sliders, garlic fries, apple wood smoked salmon and calamari'all made with local and organic ingredients. You can even order food from the bistro's menu.
The brewery is open for all games now, including Monday Night Football.
Twin Rivers Brewery Company is the perfect location for that classic, comforting and cozy game-day experience. Twin Rivers Brewery is located at 101 N. Lewis St.

The loyal league
For a sense of togetherness and family, the members only Sky Valley Eagles Club is unparalleled. Game days mean free, homemade potluck dinners and all-night drink specials. Eagles representative Jolene Wellever admits the space is small, but has a sense of intimacy and team spirit.
On Seahawk Sundays, members'kids included'gather to eat, drink and cheer. The potluck usually consists of traditional tailgating dishes such as chili, pizza and hot wings. Wellever shares that some members tend to be superstitious on Seahawk Sundays or Mondays. For example, before each game, one member covers her entire table with countless Seahawks collectables and trinkets for good luck.
Wellever also spoke about Ward, an Eagles member who, whenever there is a nail-biting moment in the game, has to go outside'rain, snow or shine'and wait until the play is over or the call is made.
Wellever describes how intense it can get in the room during critical moments in the game, but that it's always light-hearted and fun.
At the end of the game, members play raffles and spin the paddle wheel for prizes'with proceeds going directly to charity.
The Sky Valley Eagles Club is a close-knit, friendly environment'a comforting and fun place to watch the game where traditions and superstitions are accepted and encouraged. If you'd like to become a member, stop by at 1112 E. Main St. in Sultan.
