Fishing derby draws a crowd

Hayden Burges, 9, holds the first fish of the annual Kids' Fishing Derby on Lake Tye Sunday morning.
"This is the third fish I have caught in my life,GÇ¥ said the young angler, who caught the fish within minutes of the opening of the derby. The Burges are from Bothell and it was their first derby.

The fishing derby was in full swing just minutes after the 8 a.m. starting time. The fish were trucked in ahead of time by Trout Unlimited and held to the near end of the lake by means of a large net.

Mason Scollard, 9, from Silver Lake, wrestles with his prize trout in the first few minutes of the derby.
"I've been fishing for about three years,GÇ¥ he said. But he's been around the water a lot longer than that, according to his dad.
GÇ¥I've been taking him to the river since he was in his stroller,GÇ¥ he said.
