Fishing in the rain: Trout Unlimited holds annual derby

Rain made for a smaller than usual crowd during the Sky Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited's annual free kids fishing day on Sunday, April 24, but the bite in the air was trumped by the bites on children's lines.

The annual event at Lake Tye was open to children 12 and under, who had a two-fish limit, but were also fishing for the chance at a number of prizes.

Cabela's was one sponsor for the event, providing fishing gear as prizes. Trout Unlimited also had gear on hand for young novice fishers.

An adult fishing derby with a cash prize of $250 for the biggest fish caught was held later in the day.

A hardy but smaller crowd of girls, boys, grandmas, aunts, uncles, sisters and brothers absorbed the chilly rain at the Sky Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited free kids fishing day Sunday, April 24, at Lake Tye, in Monroe. Even the Osprey waited for better weather.
