Florence Mildred Countryman June 20,1926 - January 16, 2017

Long time Monroe resident Florence Mildred Countryman passed away on Jan. 16, 2017, after a brief illness. Florence was born in Pomona, Calif., on June 20,1926, the first of four children to Vera and Leighton Jones. She graduated from Chino High School in 1944 and began classes at Chaffey Junior College. She worked at Woolworth’s in Pomona until her marriage in 1948 to Richard Worthing. Florence and Richard had four children: Judie, Rick, Karen, and Sue.
After raising her four children, Florence worked at the George de Beeson Art Studio and at City of Hope. She returned to school, receiving her degree at Chaffey Junior College in 1971. Soon she met Burton Countryman of Monroe, and they married in 1973. Florence became an important part of the extended Countryman clan, including Burton’s grown children Lauren, Nancy, Gayle, Jean and their families. She enjoyed immensely caring for and having fun with their children over the years.
Florence loved flower gardening and was expert at arranging flowers for church and special occasions using the flowers from her own yard. She was a fabulous baker and candymaker as well, as family members know from the many Christmas packages they received over the years.
In addition to her love of family, Florence was proud to sing in her church choirs from the time she was young through the Monroe Methodist Church Christmas service of 2016. She had a beautiful soprano voice which added joy to many church services
