Focus on Seniors: Community updates and reminders

The Snohomish Council on Aging is looking for new members for their advisory committee starting in January. The council advisory board consists of citizens who serve a three-year term to make recommendations to the county on distribution of the monies set aside to benefit senior citizens and the disabled.

Senior Services of Snohomish County is presenting a free workshop on managing chronic conditions. The East County-áSenior Center is hosting the Living Well with-áChronic Conditions-áworkshop beginning Oct. 31. The six-week series is held at ECSC, 276 Sky River Parkway, Monroe, on Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to noon through Dec.-á12, with no class on Nov. 28.
The course places special emphasis on building skills to manage and live a full life with chronic medical conditions. Past outcomes for participants have included increased physical movement, improved eating habits, improved stress management, better medication management, more skill at working with health care professionals, better problem solving and setting achievable goals. The workshop welcomes family, friends and caregivers. This is the last Chronic Condition workshop for 2013, and registration is required.
