Holly Glen Gearhart
Tonight, Feb. 5 at 6:30 p.m. the East County Senior Center kicks off their first Boomerang event; a wine and cheese tasting. The center will spotlight Pacific Northwest wines, courtesy of Clearview Spirits and Wines, paired with locally-produced cheeses. In addition the evening also offers chair massages, which are an ongoing feature for upcoming Boomerang events, which are offered on Tuesday evenings.
Set aside some time on the evenings of Feb. 12 and 26 to take advantage of one of the "Try it Out!GÇ¥ Tuesday events, in this case classes in photography. No matter what you use to grab a picture, be it phone or digital camera, instructor Richard McEnery has some tricks of the trade to share that can help to get the shots you want.
Classes in photography, wine tastings and a class in massage are three Boomerang events happening this month as part of ECSC's outreach to the 50+ crowd. Boomerang events are free to members of the center, and only $3 for those who are not yet members of the East County Senior Center. For more information call the center at (360) 794-6359.
There is an important workshop at ECSC on Feb. 25, from 1-3 p.m. ECSC will host a workshop called "Managing Caregiver Stress.GÇ¥
The workshop features speakers Kamilia Dunsky, Mental Health Program Manager for Senior Services, and Ellis Waller Walker, a gerontology expert. Ellis will talk about finding "Humor in the Caregiving JourneyGÇ¥ and will help caregivers learn how to find fun in their lives, even through the stresses of caregiving.
The stress of caring for a loved often becomes overwhelming and can lead to burn out; in this workshop you will find opportunity to turn your personal stress around.
There is also a weekly caregiver support meeting at ECSC every Tuesday from 11 a.m. to noon, and anyone may attend.
The workshop is free but registration is encouraged. You may register by calling Carmen at (425) 670-8984, ext. 22, or email crasmussen@lcsnw.org.
