Memorial Day has come and gone, kicking off new events and happenings at the East County Senior Center. Here are a few things to mark on your calendar.
Tuesday, June 4 get your lucky charms ready and head out to Angel of the Winds Casino with the group to play blackjack, try your luck at slots and have a good time with the ECSC casino crowd. The bus leaves at 8:30 a.m. heading to Arlington for the day. The cost is $12 for members, $23 for non-members.
Wednesday, June 5 experience the Cougar Mountain Zoo. The gang leaves at 11:15 a.m. The zoo is the work of Peter and Marcie Rittler who provide a refuge for many endangered species of bird and small lemur. The refuge covers eight acres and sports a real cougar named Nashi; you may also get a glimpse of cranes and reindeer so be sure to bring your cameras! A sack lunch is provided in the cost of this trip; $21 for members and $30 for non-members.
You have probably heard of Trader Joe's and Whole Foods Market in Bellevue, but have you made a trip there? Here is your chance to do both. Grab your shopping bags and join in on this excursion to shop for the good stuff! Both markets are well known for having an exciting and varied number of natural and organic items on the shelf. Have a little lunch while you are there. The cost is $11 for members and $20 for non-members.
June 19 the bus leaves Monroe en route to the Claim Jumper restaurant in Redmond. Join us for dinner and conversation; dinner fare runs between $11 and $22. Be sure to sign up early for a seat on the bus; $9 members, $18 for non-members.
ONGOING at the Center:
The Monthly Birthday Luncheon for June will be celebrated on Friday, June 14at 11:30 a.m. If your birthday fell between May 10 and June 14or is sometime in June, or you just want to come have lunch, come on down. There will be a gift for the birthday that falls nearest to June 14. Lunch costs $3.
Every Friday play BINGO! Come on out to win a little and support ECSC; regular bingo games payout $40 to $50 per game GÇô jackpots pay out much higher. Papers begin selling at 5 p.m, games start at 6:45 p.m. And if you cannot wait for Fridays, then come to the Tuesday and Thursday bingo games at 12:45 p.m., with papers going on sale at 12:30.
Sell your gold. Brad Kornish is paying for gold Tuesday June 11 from 12 to 4 p.m. Brad will donate 10% of gross payouts to the Center.
HEALTH at ECSC
Tuesdays from 8:45 to 10 a.m., come for Alignment Yoga; bring your mat or a blanket and water bottle. Instructor Dorothy Hiestand asks for a donation of 2 to $10. She can be reached at (425) 408-1824.
Monday, Wednesday and Fridays at 9 a.m. come try Enhance Fitness, a class especially designed for seniors. The cost is $2 a class or $20 a month, and is free for those who have Group Health.
Tuesdays, from 10:15 to 11 a.m., do gentle chair yoga with Dorothy Hiestand. Use a chair to help steady yourself. Bring a mat or blanket and water bottle. There is a suggested donation of $2 - $10.
Reiki Energy Healing happens the second and fourth and Mondays of the month at 8:30 a.m. Reiki is an Asian form hands-on healing, based on a life force energy in the human body that can be called upon to induce health or healing.
Fridays at 10 a.m. Bernadette Henry, LMT, BSW, RC will be on hand for chair massages. It would be best to make an appointment with Henry; call (360) 794-6359. The cost is $15 for 15 minutes.
