Gerald William Schmidt was born in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Canada, April 11th, 1928 and passed away June 22nd, 2015. Though born in Alberta, Gerald grew up amongst loving family in the Sumner, WA area.
He joined the US Army at the age of 22, serving in Germany and reached the rank of corporal. He received an honorable discharge August 13th, 1956. He spent his career after the Army driving large rigs for Weyerhaeuser, living in North Bend, and retiring in 1986.
In 1975, Gerald met his future wife, Margaret, and they married two years later. They eventually settled in Monroe, in a home built by Margaret's father. They loved camping and spent time traveling the western US, as well as enjoying their children and grandchildren. In his retirement years Gerald was very active in
The Sky Valley Antique Tractor Club and had a passion for farming.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two great-granddaughters, and survived by his wife, three step-sons, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and his sister and family. He is greatly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 11th at 2 pm at the United Methodist Church, 342 S. Lewis St., Monroe, WA 98272.
