Housing Hope honors Hoover


Soon-to-be retired Monroe School District Superintendent Ken Hoover was honored during Housing Hope's annual Community of Hope dinner last week.
The event took place on March 12, at the Golf Club at Echo Falls in Snohomish. Hoover, who served as the event emcee, was recognized in a surprise presentation given by Housing Hope East County Board Member Tom MacIntyre.
"Nine years ago, when we hired Ken, we knew what we were getting for education,GÇ¥ MacIntyre said. "We had no clue what we were getting for community support. We got a twofer; we got Ken and Kim.GÇ¥
Ken and his wife, Kim, have served on numerous community boards and committees. They've supported the Monroe Arts Council, the Monroe Lions Club, the Monroe Rotary Club, the Monroe Chamber of Commerce and more. Their son Erich has a doctorate in applied physics and their daughter Linnea is an accredited artist GÇô one of her early pieces was recently auctioned off during a fundraising event for the Monroe Chamber of Commerce.
"They have been unbelievable contributors to the community,GÇ¥ MacIntyre said.
MacIntyre shared that a group of supporters worked together to obtain a permanent bench and an engraved paving stone that will be installed in honor of Ken and Kim Hoover at the Monroe Family Village, a Housing Hope community on West Main Street that is currently under construction.
Hoover recalled that when he first came to Monroe nine years ago, he was immediately impressed by the sense of community.
"It's a wonderful community to be part of, and I applaud all the other community volunteers who work hard everyday to make this a better place for all of us,GÇ¥ Hoover said.-á "It's a wonderful place.GÇ¥
