James Edward Hunnicutt August 4, 1938 - January 17, 2016

Jim Hunnicutt, 77, passed away at his home in Monroe on January 17, 2016, from pancreatic cancer with his family at his side. Jim was born in Eugene, Oregon on August 4, 1938. His early years were spent in Oakridge, Oregon, where he learned to hunt and fish. He later moved to Monroe where he met and married Dolly Sofie, his wife of 54 years. They were blessed with two sons, Jim and Rick. He was employed by Snohomish County Road Department for 30 years before retiring in 1998. He loved the Monroe area and was very active in the community serving 16 years on the city council and 14 years on the fire board. A big part of his life was volunteering and coaching his sons in Little League. For years he worked with the Monroe School District volunteering his time in helping to renovate athletic fields and organizing and working the "chain gangGÇ¥ at all the home football games. In 2003 he was awarded the Monroe Chamber of Commerce President's Award for community service. He enjoyed the game of golf and playing with his many friends and once while golfing with his neighbors scored a hole-in-one. He would deliver bags of cut kindling to his surgeon to be sure the doctor did not injure his hands. His years as an avid steelhead fisherman were well noted, as Jim's favorite spot on the Skykomish River was given the name the "Hunnicutt Hole.GÇ¥ His real passion, hunting game, came later in life as he traveled to New Zealand, Canada, Montana, and later to Texas. To everyone's amazement he was able to make has final hunting trip in October to Texas where he bagged two exotic animals, an Oryx and Gemsbok. During his lifetime he made many wonderful and trusted friendships and will truly be missed. His sometimes grandiose character and unique sense of humor stayed with him to the very end. He is survived by his wife, Dolly, son Jim and wife Tanya Roesijadi, grandson Kade, brother Richard and partner Alfred Herrera, numerous sisters and brothers-in-laws and nieces and nephews. He is also survived by extended family, Michael, Carri, Mitchel, Nathan and Mercea Winney and special friend, Lucy Spada. He was preceded in death by his son Rick and mother and step-father Evelyn and Larry Kubaski. Special thanks to Dr. Michael Eickerman and Providence Hospice for their love and passionate care and the assistance of staff at Les Schwab, Monroe, and the many relatives and friends that visited him weekly throughout his final journey. A celebration of Jim's life will be held on Saturday, February 27th at 11:30 a.m. at Cascade Community Church, 14377 Fryelands Blvd. SE., Monroe.
