Les Friesen February 6, 1938 - September 25, 2018

Les Friesen (former Monroe resident) passed away peacefully with his family at his side at the age of 80 in Anaheim, CA on September 25, 2018.

Les suffered a stroke related to an incurable degenerative neurological disease he’d been battling with incredible courage and grace. Les was born in Altona, Manitoba Canada in February of 1938. He moved to California in the 1960s to pursue employment opportunities and sunny weather. He worked for Southern California Edison, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and was appointed to the Inglewood Police Department on March 1, 1967 where he retired as a Lieutenant on August 8, 1991. Les and his wife Suzy moved to the Snohomish and Monroe area shortly after his retirement. Les and Suzy owned a small antique shop in Monroe for several years until Suzy passed away in 2006.

Les met and developed a relationship with Sharon Hanson shortly after Suzy’s passing. Les and Sharon traveled the world together and enjoyed many wonderful adventures. Les loved working out at Thrive Community Fitness and being an active member of the Monroe community. He volunteered at the Monroe Senior Center, was Vice President of the Amberwood Home Owner’s Association, was an avid supporter and booster club member of the Everett Silvertips hockey team, and a member of the Sky Valley Stock & Antique Tractor Club.

Les is survived by his sons, Pete Friesen and Craig Friesen, two daughters-in-law, Joey and Tami, and four grandchildren, Hannah, Zach, Jared and Avery.

A celebration of Les’ life will occur on Saturday, October 13 at Walnut Village, located at 891 S. Walnut St. Anaheim, CA 92802. Les’ family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Les’s name to the Cody Waters Foundation for Pediatric Brain Cancer: http://thecodywatersfoundation.com/contact_us.
