Local business people fund Christmas dinner for Sky Valley impoverished

The Monroe Chamber of Commerce is helping to coordinate a free community Christmas dinner at 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 22. Families in need and homeless individuals from both Monroe and Sultan are welcome to attend the event.
"I was approached by a building owner downtown who would like to donate a sum of money to do a homeless dinner on December 22,GÇ¥ said Monroe Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Una Wirkebau-Hartt. "It's a very generous donation.GÇ¥
Cahn Pham, owner of several buildings in the downtown core, is the building owner who approached Wirkebau-Hartt.
The event will be held at the Junction, which is located just off Main Street at 114 N. Lewis St. in downtown Monroe. The food will be prepared by local chefs Aaron Brown and Adam Hoffman.
Hoffman is the owner of Adam's Bistro, located near the corner of Lewis and Main Street.
The chamber is seeking volunteers to help facilitate the meal and accomplish such tasks as setting up chairs, cleaning up afterwards and more. Donations are also needed to help supplement the food budget; donations of both food and cash are being accepted to help support the event.
"Depending on how many donations we get we're definitely going to be giving folks food to take with them,GÇ¥ said Wirkebau-Hartt.
A tentative menu is being planning including hot pasta dishes, salads, fresh fruits, rolls and beverages.
Wirkebau-Hartt is also encouraging donations of basic necessities including toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap and other personal hygiene items, in order to incorporate a gift bag element. To find out what items are needed or how you can donate, please contact the Monroe Chamber of Commerce at 360-794-5488, or email Wirkebau-Hartt at director@monroewachamber.org.
