Children's Programs:
Ready Readers, Toddler Storytime: Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29, 10:30 a.m. Stories, music and movements that nurture the desire to read in toddlers. Playtime or craft may follow. For ages 18 months to 3 years. Caregiver required.
Ready Readers, Preschool Storytime: Thursdays, Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, 10 a.m. Books, sing-along songs, and creative activities that prepare young minds for reading. For ages 3-5.
Ready Readers, Preschool Storytime (Bilingual): Thursdays, Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, 11 a.m. Books, sing-along songs, and creative activities that prepare young minds for reading. For ages 3-5. Presented in English and Spanish.
Ready Readers, Baby and Me Storytime: Tuesdays, Oct. 7, 14, 21 and 28, 10:30 a.m. Stories, songs, rhymes, and activities that inspire a love of reading. Playtime follows. For newborns through 18 months. Caregiver required.
Reading with Rover: Saturday, Oct. 25, 11 a.m. The Reading with Rover program is designed to help kids strengthen reading skills and improve reading confidence.
Teen Programs:
Junior Monroe Wednesday Writers: Wednesdays, Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, 4:30 p.m. Support and guidance for teen writers, led by published author Bernadette Pajer and Teen Librarian Marina Malcevski. All writers in grades 6-12 are welcome.
Teen Movie: Thursday, Oct. 9, 3 p.m. Join other teens in watching a story go from page to screen. One viewer will win a DVD of the movie. Snacks provided. Call the library for movie title.
Paranormal Reality, Exploring Incidents of Unknown Origins in the Pacific Northwest: Tuesday, Oct. 21, 7 p.m. Learn about the real world of paranormal investigation with Darren Thompson of Washington State Paranormal Investigation and Research (WSPIR).
Adult Programs:
Turn on the Tech, iPad 101: Wednesday, Oct. 1, 6 p.m. A hands-on tech session to learn how to download eBooks with ease. Just bring your iPad or other iDevice, its USB/charging cable, library card, as well as your iTunes account logon information.
Meet Jennifer Pharr Davis, 2012 National Geographic Adventurer of the Year: Saturday, Oct. 4, 11 a.m. Jennifer Pharr Davis, author, hiker and speaker, has hiked over 12,000 miles on six different continents. She holds the fastest known time on the Appalachian Trail, has written five books, and owns a hiking company. Jennifer will discuss her new book, "Called Again", about her record-breaking hike on the Appalachian Trail. Books will be available for purchase and signing.
Book-a-Librarian Tech Session: Mondays, Oct. 6, 13, 20, 27, all day.
A one-on-one tech help session on anything from basic computer skills to getting the most out of your library card. Bring your own device or the library can provide a practice device. Please preregister online or by phone. The techs cannot provide hardware assistance for your device but can show you how to use library resources to find help with any repairs you might need.
Turn on the Tech, Computer Basics-Cursor, Keyboard, Mouse: Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2 p.m. Computer basics in a low-pressure learning environment to discover the ins and outs of operating a computer. Class size is small and personal so please preregister online or by phone.
Turn on the Tech, Computer Basics-Word, Email, Printing: Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2 p.m. Discover the basics of how to create, attach, send and print your documents. Class is intended for those already confident in their basic mouse and keyboard skills. Class size is small and personal so please preregister online or by phone.
The Story of Gettysburg: Saturday, Oct. 25, 10:30 a.m. A narrative of the turning point of the Civil War, what led up to it and how the battle developed. This is a multi-media presentation with direct quotes, maps, music and present-day photos. It concludes with a dramatic retelling of Pickett's Charge. Ern Snook has visited many Civil War sites and brings a factual but 21st Century analysis to this most important battle; this is the 150th anniversary of the last year of the Civil War.

A World of Sweets in Washington State GÇô Saturday, Oct. 25, 2-3:30 p.m. The diverse range of sweets we enjoy across Washington state reveals much about our shared history and culture. Anthropologist Julia Harrison will encourage a level of understanding about the ways in which sweet foods shape our relationships and reveal our priorities.
