Children's Programs:
Ready Readers, Family Storytime: Friday, Dec. 19, 10:30 a.m. Stories, live music, and fun activities that celebrate the joy of reading and rhythm. All ages welcome.
Pajama Storytime/ Cuentos y Pijamas: Monday, Dec. 22, 7 p.m. Come wearing your pajamas for stories, songs, fingerplays, and fun! A craft may follow.
Reading with Rover: Saturday, Dec. 27, 11 a.m. The Reading with Rover program is designed to help kids strengthen reading skills and improve reading confidence.
Family Programs:
Drop In Craft: Monday, Dec. 8, 6:30 p.m. Enjoy a craft activity to make and take. Plus, discover useful library resources for more family fun.
LEGO-« Lab: Friday, Dec. 12, 3:30p.m. Come and build to your heart's content using LEGO-« and K'NEX! This program promotes discovery and self-directed learning.
Night at the Movies: Tuesday, Dec. 16, 6:30 p.m. Sing along and enjoy a viewing of a Disney movie (rated PG) with your family and friends. One lucky viewer will win a DVD of the movie. Snacks will be provided.
Gingerbread House Workshop: Monday, Dec. 22, 2 p.m. Construct a cottage using sweet confections. Plus, learn about other fun, winter activities using great library resources. Space is limited, preregister online.
Movie Matinee: Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2 p.m. Enjoy a viewing of a Disney movie (rated PG) with your family and friends. Participants will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win a copy of the DVD.
It's All About YOU! Monday, Dec. 29, 2 p.m. What makes you an original? Delve into that question and then dive into art. Make a self-portraitusing collage materials that are as original as the one and only YOU! Encourages discovery and self-directed learning. For ages five and up.
Sharing Tales: Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2 p.m. Travel the globe and participate in amazing folktales. Celebrate the joys of reading and telling stories within an atmosphere of discovery, collaboration and fun. For school-aged children. Funded by the Darrington Friends of the Library.
Teen Programs:
Pacific Science Center presents Forensics 101: Mondays, Dec. 1, 8 and 15, 4 p.m. Acquire the scientific skills needed to solve crimes. Focus on fingerprints, crack codes, decipher handwriting, use chromatography to investigate a crime scene, analyze fibers, delve into DNA evidence, and practice observations skills. Can you tell if someone is lying? How much can you remember about an event? Then use all your forensic skills to solve the mystery of who stole the butterfly chrysalises!
Junior Monroe Wednesday Writers: Wednesdays, Dec. 3, 10 and 17, 4:30 p.m. Support and guidance for teen writers, led by published author Bernadette Pajer and Teen Librarian Marina Malcevski. All writers in grades 6-12 are welcome.
DIY Crafts for Teens, Gingerbread Houses: Tuesday, Dec. 9, 3 p.m. Celebrate the season by decorating gingerbread houses. Prefab houses will be ready for you and your fellow teens to decorate with frosting, candy and other decorations. Snacks will be provided.
Teen Gaming, Super Smash Bros. Tournament: Monday, Dec. 29, 3:30 p.m. Super Smash Bros. bracket tournament. Snacks will be provided.
Teen Gaming, Retro Edition: Wednesday, Dec. 30, 3:30 p.m. Try your hand at some retro gaming by taking a turn moving to the beat with Dance Dance Revolution. Or take a virtual step back in time and play Atari or Sega. Snacks will be provided.
Adult Programs:
Book-a-Librarian Tech Session: Mondays, Dec. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29, all day. Come to the library for one-on-one tech help on anything from basic computer skills to getting the most out of your library card. Bring your own device or let us provide one for you to practice on. (Please preregister online or by phone. Note: While the library cannot provide hardware assistance with your own devices they can show you how to use library resources to find help with any repairs you might need.)
Turn on the Tech, Nook: Wednesday, Dec. 3, 7 p.m. A hands-on tech session to learn how to download eBooks with ease. Just bring your Nook, its USB/Charging cable, library card, and as your B&N account logon information. Please preregister online or by phone.
Turn on the Tech, hoopla: Wednesday, Dec. 10, 7 p.m. Learn how to get free movies, music, and audio books at the touch of a button with your library card.
Turn on the Tech, Digital Scrapbooking: Wednesday, Dec. 17, 7 p.m. A digital art lesson in how to turn your photos into beautiful works of scrapbooking while saving a scrap of change for yourself. Bring a flurry of your best winter photos. Please preregister online or by phone.

LEGO-« Club: Saturday, Dec. 13, 11 a.m. Build whatever you can imagine through individual projects, cooperative play and free exploration. For ages 5-12.
Science Rocks! Saturday, Dec. 20, 11:30 a.m. Explore the world of geology (the science of rocks) with hands-on experiments and learn how to make discoveries of your own. For school age children.
FunTangle for Kids: Monday, Dec. 22, 11 a.m. Using only paper, markers and a bit of imagination, turn random lines, spirals, circles and other simple patterns into your own creative masterpiece. For children age 9 and older. Inspired by the Zentangle-« method.
