Calvin Bradham, 42, whose supporters called themselves "Bradham's HeroesGÇ¥ and worked to help support his young family as he battled cancer, has died.
As recently as Oct. 1, his family and friends hoped he would survive the sudden and vicious cancer that struck just over a year ago.
The ordeal began in the summer of 2012, when Bradham was stricken with unexplained swelling in his legs.
A CT scan revealed that he had cancer in his esophagus, liver and lungs. He immediately began treatment. The cancer retreated, but was back two months later.
He began a new course of chemotherapy in early October that afforded him a small possibility of surviving as long as he continued the therapy indefinitely.
He went on a last golfing trip at the end of September, even though he was in considerable pain.
Friends of the family, including his wife of 14 years, Stephonie, and son, Tyler, 11, rallied, holding work parties at the family home and raising funds.
Bradham died at home in the presence of his family Saturday, Oct. 26.
He was born in Iowa, but moved to Monroe at a young age and graduated from Monroe High School in 1989. He married Stephonie, his high school sweetheart, in 1999.
He worked at Anheuser-Busch, where he had enjoyed considerable success in sales. He loved outdoor activities, including golf, motorsports, fishing and camping.
There will be a memorial Nov. 9 at New Hope Fellowship at 1012 Main St., in Monroe, from 2-3 p.m.
