Monroe library hosts "Caddy Stacks' fundraiser

The Friends of the Monroe Library (FOML) organization will be holding its first-ever miniature golf fundraising event this week.

The "Caddy StacksGÇ¥ indoor mini-golf tournament will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27 at the Monroe Library (1070 Village Way). The family-friendly event will include a nine-hole miniature golf course, that will be routed throughout the library. Admission to the event is $5 per person or $10 for a family.-á

"Each hole will be designed and decorated to match that part of the library,GÇ¥ said Managing Librarian Phil Spirito.

Themes will include science fiction, history, local history, travel and kids. Prizes, including e-readers and baskets of books, will be raffled off during the event.

Spirito approached FOML with the miniature golf concept, resulting in a collaborative event that has involved both library staff and FOML volunteers. FOML is a nonprofit, volunteer organization dedicated to supporting and promoting public awareness of library services and staff.

Typically, FOML raises money for the library via book sales. This year, Spirito and FOML would like to raise money to help enhance the library's community-focused adult and children's programming. They are hopeful that the miniature golf fundraiser, in addition to the book sales, will help them in their efforts to increase resources and services.

They are also hoping to add some interactive displays to the children's area.

Since coming to work at the Monroe Library last summer, Spirito has been working to improve the library's visibility by promoting the array of free services that are available. Library guests can receive assistance with their resumes, obtain job-seeking advice, receive access to small business-related resources and obtain ESL services.

Through the "Book a LibrarianGÇ¥ program, guests can receive one-on-one guidance from a librarian on a broad spectrum of topics, including how to do research, basic computer skills and smartphone help.-á

Local businesses are welcome to get involved in "Caddy StacksGÇ¥ event through various levels of sponsorship. Birdie level is available for a $50 donation GÇô the contributing businesses will be able to place a small sign promoting their business at the library's entrance. Eagle level is available for a $100 donation, which enables businesses to place a small poster in a prominent location inside the library.

Ace level is available for a $250 donation, and participating businesses will receive visible promotion at one of the nine holes.

The event will also include prizes, refreshments and live music.
