Monroe mayor meets with new U.S. Rep. Delbene

Suzan DelBene, who this month assumes the job of representative from the newly-redrawn 1st District to the U.S. Congress, paid a visit to Monroe Friday to discuss issues important to area residents.
"Our meeting lasted about an hour and we discussed a number of issues that are affecting and impacting residents and business in Monroe," said Monroe Mayor Robert Zimmerman. "The biggest of which is transportation and the need for funding the Highway 2 bypass."
They also discussed the needs of local business and their struggles with federal regulations, Zimmerman said.
And he mentioned the possibility of an international investment program which could come to Monroe, bringing potentially millions in capital to the area (see front page).
"Ms. DelBene was enthusiastic, as she will be serving on the Congressional committee that oversees this program," said Zimmerman.
Though the two public officials are from different parties, Zimmerman said he thinks DelBene will do a good job for the 1st District.
"I was very pleased to have the opportunity to meet with Congresswoman DelBene and believe that she will do well to represent our needs, as well as influence the decision makers who decide where funding will go," he said.
