Monroe Police arrested a 30-year-old Spokane man on Monday, after he allegedly stole a city public works truck.
Multiple city employees said they saw Joshua Warren get in and drive the vehicle away, according to probable cause documents — some tried to follow him but eventually lost sight of the truck. Officers responded around 1:24 p.m. Nov. 13, to the area of Kelsey and Powell streets, where the truck was reported stolen.
The tailing crewmembers told police they last saw Warren traveling southbound on State Route 203. An officer tracked down the vehicle headed northbound on the road, and conducted a high-risk traffic stop with another officer.
Warren was taken into custody without incident, according to the release. He said in a taped statement he saw the truck running and decided to use it to get back to Spokane, according to court documents.
He admitted to taking the truck after feeling “stuck” in Monroe, according to the documents. He said he had just wanted to get home. Five employees positively identified him as the one who took the truck.
Warren was booked into the Snohomish County jail and charged in Everett District Court for one count of vehicle theft. His bail was set at $2,500. That same day he received a charge from the Washington State Department of Corrections for violating his parole.
