On Monday, March 2, at 6:30 p.m., parents with children entering kindergarten this September can attend the Monroe Public Schools Kindergarten Information Night.
The informational meetings will be hosted by local school principals and include discussion of curriculum and the registration process. Kindergarten registration will be accepted during the event and on the school days following, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. at each elementary school. To find out which school serves your area, visit www.monroe.wednet.edu or call 360-804-2652.
It is important for families to register by April, because some of the school district's additional kindergarten options may be cancelled due to lack of interest or other schools may fill up early and have to bus students to other schools.
In standard programs, students attend every day, either in the morning or afternoon. There's also an option for extended kindergarten, from 8:50 a.m. to 3:25 p.m., which requires tuition. Discounts are available for qualifying families.
Frank Wagner Elementary (115 Dickinson St.) has an extended-day program, as well as a dual-language program. Those programs are first come, first served. Frank Wagner will have its own information night, solely about those programs on Feb. 25 at 6:30 p.m.
Maltby Elementary School (9700 212th St. S.E.) has an all-day, tuition-based Montessori program. For more information, attend its informational meeting on Feb. 26 at 6:30 p.m.
State law requires incoming kindergarteners to have current immunizations by the first day of class and be age 5, by August 31, 2015. A certified birth certificate is required.
