Monroe athletes made a strong first impression at the USA Taekwondo Nationals this summer, taking home five medals.
The seven young athletes from Northwest Sport Taekwondo competed in Salt Lake City in July — a first for the Monroe school.
• Alainah Colver took gold in the Cadet class (33 kg).
• Edwin Jimenez took gold in the Junior class (63kg).
• Hector Maldonado won the silver medal in the Junior class (-63kg).
• Trinity Tongg Osborn won gold in the Ultra (67kg).
• Zoe Osborn took bronze in the Junior class (68kg).
• Sawyer Krohn and Michael Colver finished top-8 in cadet (45kg) and Ultra (80kg+) respectively, but lost their quarterfinals matches.
The team plans to fundraise to go to next year’s Nationals in Minneapolis.
Northwest Sport Taekwondo was started by Michael Colver, Stacy Criswell and Trinity Tongg Osborn, who all trained together at one point at the former Olympic Taekwondo in Monroe.
