TriMonroe triathlon volunteer coordinator looking for help

The city of Monroe is gearing up for the annual TriMonroe junior elite triathlon event, and volunteer coordinator Jeff Rasmussen is looking for help to ensure the event runs smoothly.

TriMonroe takes place 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, at Monroe's Lake Tye Park.

Volunteers are needed to perform a variety of tasks, including event set-up, teardown, manning water and aid stations, preparing and handing out post-race snacks, directing traffic, stuffing goody-bags, finish-line assistance and lifeguarding. Four-hour shifts are optimal, Rasmussen said, but folks are able to work a two-hour shift if necessary.

TriMonroe is an elite cup racing event for youth 13-19 that includes a swim in Lake Tye, one or two laps around Lake Tye's 1.6-mile pathway and a bike ride that extends down Fryelands Boulevard. The race is organized by Total Health Events, in conjunction with the Snohomish County Sports Council, the city of Monroe, USA Triathlon National and USA Triathlon GÇô Pacific Northwest Region.

Volunteers under the age of 17 are eligible to help as long as they provide a parent's signature.
