Monroe wins Wesco basketball showdown

After a tough loss to Jackson who is ranked number one in Wesco South, the Bearcats looked to rebound at home.
It was a nasty showdown between Monroe and Lynnwood. In the first quarter it was a seesaw battle. Monroe went to the line for two after a foul by Lynnwood. Number 23 from Monroe, Andrew Chartrand, shot a
knockout the first one but misses the second one to end the first quarter with a score of 12 to 11, with Lynnwood leading the game.
The Bearcats exploded to a 10 point lead with number 50 Brandon Gunderson's turnaround jumper. With 23 seconds remaining in the first half, the Bearcats led by 10.
Gunderson came out of the locker room hot with two jumpers from downtown.
Lynnwood came firing back to tie it up, 63 to 63, with 1:10 to go in the game. On the inbound pass, Gunderson sunk a two-pointer to make the crowd go crazy. After the two-point shot, Monroe ran down the clock, winning a nail-biting 66 to 63.
Standouts of the game on the Monroe side were Riley Schelfhout with 15 points and 16 rebounds, and for Lynnwood, Cordell Smith and David Vo both scored 10 points. 1380 AM radio named Brandon Gunderson Player of the Game, leading all with 24 points.
